How’s the parking?

There are essentially 4 drive up access points for Woodland Caribou Provincial Park. All 4 coming from Red Lake, Ontario. Lund Lake access 9 via Pine Ridge Forestry Road, and Johnson, Onnie and Leano via Iriam Road to the south. Now while you can access the park via plane or shuttled boat – I guess the traditional way is via long winding and rough logging roads! haha! Well, here ya go! while there may not be a whole lot of logging going on along these two routes now, the conditions you will find are mixed. Do not drive your smart car up here. Take something with a little more toughness to it. A truck, a 4×4 preferably. some of the rocks along the way will find your undercarriage somehow.. I know.

Oh, the parking.. ya. Each of these access points (I’ve been to all 4), has a gravel bedded area for upwards of 12-15 cars/ trucks. That is plenty even in the busiest time of the season. Leano access being the most popular – I have seen 5 vehicles at the most over the years. Ya, the question isn’t is there enough parking but how long until I get to the parking!.. well. Times are stated on the map. They are stated from the edge of the map. Now, hopefully that isn’t too confusing. Generally, from Red Lake proper to Lund access – 2.5 hours (81kms) to Johnson access – 40-45 minutes (34kms) to Lean access – 2.5 hours+ (71kms). Iriam road gets significantly more rough after you pass Black Bear Lodge. Many low level crossings come into play as you progress closer to the Leano access. Have plenty of gas in your vehicle for the drive out after your trip!
